Format your abstract(s) according to the abstract template and save them in MS Word or rich text (RTF) format. Abstract file names should start with the name of the first author, and end with the presentation preference, e.g. Kaskela_Oral.doc. In case you are submitting more than one abstract, include a number after your name. Abstract(s) must not exceed one A4 page, including possible illustrations (black and white, grayscale or color), tables and references.
Submit your abstract attached to an email to baltic2012 gtk.fi with the word “Abstract” in the Subject line. Append to the subject line the number of theme under which you would like your abstract to be considered. Append Oral, Poster or No Pref. to indicate your preference for Oral or Poster presentation. For example, “Abstract 1 Oral”. No other words in the Subject line, please.
The scientific themes of Baltic 2012 include:
1. Geoscience in the Baltic Sea energy development
This theme covers geological investigations in the Baltic Sea area that are related to energy production. Topics include wave and offshore wind energy utilization, CO2 geological storage and CH4 seepage sequestration.
2. Geological development of the Baltic Sea Basin (towards the Baltic IODP)
Celebrating the successful Baltic Sea IODP application, all studies discussing the development of the Baltic Sea Basin are welcome under this theme.
3. Geo-bio interactions in space and time
This theme explores interactions between the biosphere and the lithosphere through the geological history of the Baltic Sea. Studies involving mapping and characterization of benthic habitats and sediment microbial communities are welcome, as well as investigations of their temporal changes from the sedimentary record.
4. Challenges for society: Changing sea level and coastal processes through time
Studies on sea level change and coastal processes through postglacial times and the impact of change on people and the society.

Proceedings of the colloquium will be published in a theme issue of Bulletin of the Geological Society of Finland, with a planned publication date in June 2013. We welcome manuscripts based on oral and poster presentations at the meeting. Submit your manuscripts as single PDF files including text, figures and tables by email to joonas.virtasalogtk.fi by 30th November 2012 (this is a hard deadline). Include a list of four potential reviewers to the email.
