When we’ll get this map? |
- Answer: WDMAM vers 1.0 was released at IUGG / IAGA in Perugia, July 2007.
- WDMAM vers. 2.0 is planned to be relesed at 33IGC, in Oslo, August 2008.

When and where we’ll get this data? |
- Answer: A 3' x 3' grid was released to open area at IUGG/IAGA in Perugia 2007. It is available from CGMW and WDMAM, and participating organizations will have copies of it for distribution. Some parts of the data are available in open area from servers of the owners. Grid resolution of these vary from 1 to 50 km. Please see metadata and communication address at our data page: You may download the data here now.
What are the difference between the original data sets and WDMAM 1.0 grid |
- Answer: WDMAM covers whole globe. Data levels are unified to one system and epoch (WDMAM2007), long wavelenghs adjusted by modelling and data presented at 5 km above the main source area, regridded to 5 km resolution.
Why did you do this map? |
- Answer: Such a map don’t exist. It was required to better understand global structure of magnetic lithosphere and its evolution. It’s level definitions may assist local map compilers to make their anomalies globally compatible.
Why do you produce a new edition of the map? |
- Answer: New data has been released for public since our deadline for WDMAM2007.
- Scientific work of geomagnetism has produced improved satellite and oceeanic field models.
- There's a demand on more detailed scale for the map.
- The next step of improvement will be 2008 version.
- We may have enough progress to produce a new digital version annually until 2011, when Swarm-satellites may open a new concept for merging satellite and ground based data.
