Sampling programme
For detailed studies will be selected a group of test areas, where As concentrations are
known to exceed the standards for drinking water or for the soil. These sites may be households
using drinking water with As > 10 ug/L, or a contaminated wood treatment plant or a mining area
showing high As in soil.
The detailed studies include, for example, ecotoxicological tests and research on the
dispersion of arsenic from the contaminated sites. This information, together with the published
data will be exploited in the refined risk assessment, where the impact on human health and for the
environment is evaluated.
Samplings:
- Water sampling from drilled and dug wells
- Soil samples from contaminated sites
- Soil samples from agricultural soils and forest soils
- Samples from the typical crops (potatoe, wheat, timothy grass)
The samples will be analysed for arsenic, heavy metals and numerous other compounds. The
samples will be collected during the years 2005 and 2006.
